The Rosetta Stone discovered in July 1799 by French Engineer Pierre-François Bouchard; during construction at the Egyptian port city of Rosetta. Napoleon’s army was so awestruck by the spectacle that, "it halted of itself and, by one spontaneous impulse, grounded its arms.” From 1822 to 1824, Jean-François Champollion expanded this work, and become known as the translator of the Rosetta Stone; and in the end he brought voices alive, which had been silenced for thousands of years.
